I tend to get sick a lot mostly from bacteria (infection), allergy, mold, etc. Of course I am careful and try to keep the place allergy / mold free home. Whenever I get sick (bacteria infection / sinus infection / upper respiratory infection ) Conventional doctor would give me an antibiotic and I am feeling better in about 10 days. Fine. But I also know the downside of using antibiotic. What are the healthier better alternate ?

Is it beneficial or just a good idea to put antibiotic cream and honey( Manuka UMF10 ) on top of an infected wound?Or will they cancel each other? I read about the great benefits of honey in wound healing, even if antibiotics are resistant.Would it even be better to put only honey on it? Does anybody know about that or have any experience? Thanks
I have to come up with a project with my microbiology course. I wanted to create an experiment using antibiotics. I was thinking of changing the media it grow in and adding various concentrations of an amino acid to see if it would affect the bacterium's resistance or susceptibility to the antibiotic? Would that work?
I can't think of anything else I could add to the medium that would affect antibiotic resistance.
If anyone has any advise, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks!
Hi, I have to answer this question for my medical microbio lab - Why would a doctor choose to use an antibiotic that produces a smaller zone of inhibition against a pathogen than one which produces a larger ZI?
This isn't related to the use of wide spectrum vs narrow spectrum antibiotic, is it? Does it have anything to do with the prevention of resistant strains from emerging? Help, please. Thanks in advance!
My dog got an antibiotic injection at the emergency vet and was prescribed Baytril and a cough suppressent for a kennel cough infection (apparently caused by strep bacteria.) This was on Sunday, but he still has the symptoms. He's improved a bit, but still has a cough (despite the cough medicine) and has a runny nose.
We're going back to the vet tommorrow morning just to check up on him, but I want to know how much longer till he starts feeling much better?
I'm performing an experiment, where I'm introducing an isolate to 5% concentrations of two alcohols and then seeing if antibiotic resistance is affected. We had to write a small paragraph indicating the significance of the project.
I said that exposure to alcohol would weaken the cell's defenses against the antibiotic and lead to their vulnerability.
My teacher wrote on my paper that this was "not the mechanism."
I have tried to find some sources to determine what the mechanism could actually be but I have been unsuccessful. All I can find are articles about drinking alcohols while taking antibiotics.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Or is that not the "goal" of an antibiotic? I'm asking because some antibiotics take awhile to work and you can be taking the medicine but still in pain.
I have an eye infection but the eye doctor didn't think it was necessary for him to give me antibiotic eye drops. Meanwhile, my eye continues causing me pain, especially in air conditioning.
