Cat with bladder infection - How soon will antibiotics start working?

My cat has a bladder infection, diagnosed by a vet three days ago. He is on antibiotics and just took the 4th dose of 14 (two weeks), but I just found that he peed on a pillow in our living room. Is this normal or should he be using the litter box by now?

Antibiotics will clear up any infection and won’t necessarily affect his litterbox behavior at all. Hopefully when he is out of pain and the crystals are not hurting him anymore he will become a “good boy” again.

i’m having the same problem with my dog and it’s since august. sometimes he’s good and sometimes what a mess. they tell me it’a a lenghty process and it can take three or four rounds of antibiotics.

For cats sometimes after having a bladder infection or related issue they associate their litter box with pain and discomfort.. even though they are not uncomfortable anymore. You may need to bleach your litter box or get a new one if you can afford to so the past association is gone and if possible put it in a new location and re-orient your cat to the box.
