your doctor or pharmacist usually tells you to use extra protection because i can mess with the BC

Antibiotics while on birth control have resulted in lots of pregnancies.

I don’t know about Yasmin, but I’m sure it would be the same as any other b/c pill. Antibiotics completely reverse the effects of birth control. You are EXTRA fertile. Don’t stop taking your pills, but use condoms as well as the ‘pull out’ method.

I’ve been told and heard that taking antibiotics definitely increases the risk of pregnancy when taking birth control. BUT I had a UTI last December and was prescribed antibiotics while I was on the pill and did NOT get pregnant. I continued to have sex and not use a condom or anything and I didn’t get pregnant. So I guess it’s different for every woman.

you should ALWAYS use extra protection when you’re taking antibiotics and birth control. However, I am married and don’t really care if I get pregnant and I’ve been on antibiotics more times than I can count and have never used back up and never got pregnant. I am also pretty fertile because my husband and I got pregnant the 1st time we tried. But, like I said, unless you’re okay with getting pregnant ALWAYS use a back up method when on antibiotics.

I’ve always been told to use condoms when on antibiotics, they can mess your bc up and i don’t think it’s worth the risk if you’re not ready for babys.
Not sure how it works but i know it cuts out the birth control.

All I was told was to use backup. I don’t know percentages or anything, but there ARE warning labels on antibiotics (at least on mine - Keflex) warning you that they may affect your b/c and also on my b/c pack it says that as well.
