If you have the flu or something you need to take an antibiotic for how long before you aren't contagious once you start taking the antibiotic? I have been told 3 different things. Twenty four hours, 48 hours and 72hours. Which is correct?

I took two antibiotics. I have been off the Amoxicillin 500mg that I took for seven days for at least three months. I was also put on Bactrim DS 800-160 TAB for seven days to kill E. Coli. I have been off that for a couple of weeks now. Did these two short-term antibiotics that I took kill all of my "friendly" bacteria? If they did not, how fast and how long does the "friendly" bacteria come back after it has been killed by and antibiotic? Oh yeah, I have been eating yogurt and kefir everyday.

I'm taking Ampicillin 500 mg 4x/day and am on Day 2.5 and haven't seen any changes. I know docs can do cultures to help determine the type of bacteria (long story-don't want to involve docs), but I'm just wondering if I'm taking the right type of antibiotic to cover an array of bacterial infections and when to expect to see some kind of recovery. (I know to take all of the medication even if I feel better.)
Thanks for your help!

My niece needs this information. Because she has a strong indication that she may be pregnant she does not want to take a prescription antibiotic.

I am a chemistry graduate student looking to run MIC's with some of my compounds. Where is a good place for my lab to purchase antibiotic-resistant (single resistance) strains of E. coli and B. subtilis? I've looked at the ATCC as a credible souce, but I am unsure as to how to find and purchase resistant strains within their collection.

I have been taking YAZ since May of this year and the antibiotic Terbafine since June of this year. I read recently that antibiotics can cause birth control pills not to work properly. I recently had unprotected sex and am now worried that I may be pregnant. The birth control in my opinion is working great...I have lighter periods less cramps, little to no nausea, and my periods are shorter. Any help would be greatly appreciated THANKS!!
