If you have the flu or something you need to take an antibiotic for how long before you aren't contagious once you start taking the antibiotic? I have been told 3 different things. Twenty four hours, 48 hours and 72hours. Which is correct?

Ahem firstly you dont take antibiotics for the flu! But i know what you mean. Generally, each infection has a different time period when it is most easily transmitted which is why you’ve heard so many different things.
As a basic rule, you can pass it on sometimes before you have symptoms via kissing/intimacy etc. Then when you have symptoms you can pass it on via coughing, sneezing, skin contact if you dont wash hands etc.
Antibiotics will make the illness clear up quicker but wont stop it being infectious before it goes away. So with an illness you might be infectious for a week. With antibiotics however you will be infectious for 3 days since it has removed the illness from the body.
Hope this helps
