I'm performing an experiment, where I'm introducing an isolate to 5% concentrations of two alcohols and then seeing if antibiotic resistance is affected. We had to write a small paragraph indicating the significance of the project.

I said that exposure to alcohol would weaken the cell's defenses against the antibiotic and lead to their vulnerability.

My teacher wrote on my paper that this was "not the mechanism."

I have tried to find some sources to determine what the mechanism could actually be but I have been unsuccessful. All I can find are articles about drinking alcohols while taking antibiotics.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Or is that not the "goal" of an antibiotic? I'm asking because some antibiotics take awhile to work and you can be taking the medicine but still in pain.

I have a white cat with blue eyes, he cross eyed, with poor vision, about 5 mo ago he started with drainage from his eyes no other symptoms, then the eyes got infected and I got Antibiotics from the Vet. it cleared up but is back still no other symptoms, I have come to the conclusion he is allergic to something, we live in the country and my cat stays outside all day and sleeps in at night, I have several other cats and they are fine. Now my question, I have some antibiotic eye drops (Polytrim OP ) from my 20 mo old son. I would like to stop this infection from getting worse do you think it would be safe to use these drops in my cats eyes? Or do you think I should just wait and call the Vet to be sure. Are cats sensitive to cedar or pine shavens? This is what the cat sleeps on.

So antibiotics can cause stomach cramps and loose stool which are also the symptoms of antibiotic induced colitis.

I have been having these symptoms for about three days now and have been off my antibiotic for three days now. How do I know when it could be a sign of something much worse like colitis?

i've heard that the antibiotics would kill both good and bad bacteria in our body. and if we stop taking the antibiotic, pimples would come back. thus, once the antibiotic is taken, i would have to take it constantly. i'm desperate to get rid of my pimples and my friend recommeneded me to see a skin doctor and he/she will give me antibiotics. will it be good?

BANGALORE, Dec 5 (Reuters) - Shares of Targanta Therapeutics Corp rose as much as 86 percent on Friday, ahead of a key regulatory meeting on Monday that would decide the fate of the company's experimental skin-infection antibiotic, oritavancin.
'There is a little bit of speculation that at the current price, downside is limited, but there is a lot of upside if the Food and Drug Administration does give them a positive (nod),' Cowen & Co analyst Ian Sanderson told Reuters.
